You Do You?
Be true to yourself. Follow your heart. You do you.
We live in a time where the quest for self-discovery is huge. Books, blogs, films and feeds offer to help people along the journey to finding themselves.
There can be a lot of emphasis on looking within to help ground us in our identity e.g. what makes you tick, what you’re good at, your personality etc.
Often we can look to things to help define us e.g. our grades, career, hobbies, or relationship status. Sometimes, we look to what others say about us too.
But none of these things offer solid foundations.
Followers of Jesus find their identity in Him. It’s given to us.
We are now defined by who God says we are and who He is making us to be. And everything else flows from that. It doesn’t change with the tide, our mood, or our view of ourselves. It doesn’t change by what others say or even when we mess up! When we start to grasp our identity in Jesus – it is so liberating.
So Christian, who are you?
A CHILD OF GOD
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1
DELIGHTED IN
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
FORGIVEN
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness, by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
A NEW CREATION
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
RIGHTEOUS
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
A TEMPLE
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?” 1 Corinthians 6:19
SET APART
“You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
AN AMBASSADOR
“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” 2 Corinthians 5:20
A MASTERPIECE
“For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10
And this is just some of who you are in Christ. May His beautiful verdict bring such joy, courage, life, and freedom. May people look at you and see someone who once was lost, but now is found.
