Click Maple

Every year, in the run up to pancake day, I am reminded of one of the most random talks I’ve ever heard in church.

It’s around the time that supermarkets start to fill the ends of their aisles with pancake-related goods. Now I’m more of a ‘lemon and sugar’ girl…but it’s the maple syrup that reminds me of the talk that was a little bit out there.

We’d just started going through the teeny book of Jude at church. That Sunday, the speaker got up for the kids slot – opened the book of Jude and said:

“I know it’s random. But I want you to remember the words: CLICK MAPLE.”

He then read out the first few verses in the book of Jude:

"Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James,

To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:

Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance."

He went on to say something along these lines…

“I don't know what's going on with you at the moment, what life is like right now and how things are going as you walk with Jesus. Life can be so busy and stuff can crowd out what real life is really all about.

But remember: CLICK MAPLE

You have been called, loved and kept for Jesus Christ.

Mercy, peace and love are yours in abundance.”

So simple. So random. But what a sweet, vital reminder.

It was true for the believers that Jude was writing to then. And it’s true for every believer since.

Next time you see a bottle of maple syrup – remember…

CLICK MAPLE !

Heavenly Father,

Would you illuminate all we are in Jesus. All He has done for us. All He is. Would we be reminded that we are called, loved and kept for Him. Would we remember that mercy, peace and love are ours in abundance! Would these realitiesoverflow out of us by the power of your Spirit and stir our friends to wonder what’s different about us.

Would they soon taste the sweetness of being yours too.

 In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen.
