Handing Over CU Leadership
Are you praying about the future of your Christian Union?
Are you heading into exam season soon or leaving your college/sixth form at the end of this term?
Then firstly… well done for investing time, prayer and effort into CU. Juggling a course and Christian Union can be challenging, but you have helped:
Christians to keep going where they study in the challenges of that environment. You’ve helped provide a space where they can encourage each other, pray for each other, lift each other’s eyes to Jesus, and support each other in sharing Him too.
Sow seeds in the hearts of not-yet-believing students (and potentially staff!). Through the Holy Spirit at work in your CU - no doubt conversations about Jesus have happened where maybe they wouldn’t have. Friends may have come along to CU or church, and God knows about the students who (unknown to you guys!) have started to think about Jesus…explore online – or maybe even started to read the Bible or pray!
So, secondly…please don’t be an ostrich!
Time at college goes so quickly! It’s easy to keep plugging away at CU and forget that you’ll be moving on soon.
Here are 4 things to do if you’re hoping to hand over the leadership of your CU:
Pray. Lift up your Christian Union to the Good Shepherd. Ask Him to fill you with wisdom, raise up willing hearts and place the future of CU in His good and powerful hands. It’s a good idea to get close friends / your youth leaders / parents (if they know Jesus) praying too.
Get equipped. We have a whole resource full of top tips for handing over CU leadership here.
Get advice. If you aren’t already part of our student network, it may be worth signing up and seeking some wisdom from someone who has likely ‘been there, done that and got the T-shirt quite recently. Find out more about that here.
Get the Festive Network Praying. If you would love the Festive team (and a whole bunch of prayer warriors who love to pray for student mission in colleges and sixth forms) to pray for you and the future leadership of CU, we’d love to hear from you. You can ping us your prayer request here.
